A FURIOUS booze-fuelled man inflicted multiple injuries on his partner after she grabbed his private parts during a ‘one-off’ row at their Inverkip home.

Stuart Wiseman erupted with rage and assaulted her with so much force that she sustained ‘extensive bruising and swelling’ to her head.

The 51-year-old then ‘pinned’ her to the floor and held her in a vice-like grip which resulted in further injuries to both of her forearms and a finger.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard how her ‘hysterical’ screams were loud enough for neighbours to hear as she struggled to break free.

The couple had begun to argue shortly after returning home from drinks with friends at an Inverkip hotel on October 17.

Prosecutor Pamela Brady said Wiseman bumped into his partner — who has recently had surgery on a leg — knocking her off balance.

He pushed her with both of his hands after she shouted to him that he had hurt her, the court heard.

Fiscal depute Mrs Brady said: “The complainer had a cup of tea and threw the contents of the cup in the direction of the accused.

“He made his way upstairs and the complainer followed with the intention of packing a bag and going to her brother’s home.

“She struck him in the face in panic and grabbed him by the genitals.

“He threw her on the floor, out of the bedroom and into the hallway at the top of the stairs.

“Her head struck the floor and there was extensive bruising and swelling above her left eye as a result.

“She struggled with him and he held her by the arms, resulting in extensive brusing and reddening to both of her forearms.

“The complainer was very distressed and panicked.” The victim — described in court as being in an ‘hysterical’ condition — eventually phoned her brother, who then drove to Inverkip from his home in Glasgow.

Police arrived to find her crying in her kitchen with Wiseman asleep in an upstairs bedroom.

The court — told that the couple had consumed a ‘few drinks’ between 5.30pm and 8.30pm — heard how paramedics decided that the woman should be taken to hospital.

Defence lawyer Andrew Kennedy described the matter as a ‘tragedy’ for the couple.

He said: “Mr Wiseman is wholly unused to court proceedings.

“He acted under substantial provocation and had tried to get away from the situation by going upstairs.

“It was in response to being slapped and having his genitals grabbed that he pushed her.

“He accepts that he used more force than was necessary. Both parties are extensively embarrassed at washing their dirty linen in public. They are adamant that this was a one-off.” Sheriff Ian Fleming deferred sentence on Wiseman, of Glen Crescent, Inverkip, for background reports.

But he warned him: “This is a serious matter.

“Men hitting women is unacceptable, full-stop.

“Having it happen in a domestic situation aggravates matters.” Wiseman will learn his fate on 26 November.
