PUPILS at Inverclyde Academy have remembered the fallen through art, music and verse.

Youngsters paid their very personal tribute to mark Armistice Day. The whole school took part in separate ceremonies amidst a backdrop of paper poppies, inspired by the installation of ceramic poppies encircling the Tower of London. Post-it notes with youngsters’ thoughts on peace and remembrance also formed wreaths at the front of the hall.

Pupil Rachel Scott played the moving melody of Ave Maria on the flute while Siobhan Crumlish, left, performed The Last Post prior to a respectful one minute’s silence. Ministers Alan Sorensen, of Wellpark Mid Kirk, and Allan McIntyre, of St Ninian’s in Larkfield, also spoke at the event.

Head teacher Denise Crawford said: “The pupils felt remembrance was very important and they took charge of the event. It was their original artwork, they chose the music, the poems to read, they took ownership of it. Some pupils have parents who are in the forces and we are supportive of these young people.”
