SHOPPERS in Greenock got an X Factor double-whammy when two of the stars of this year’s show put on a special one-off performance.

Singer Stephanie Nala, who made the live shows of the TV talent show, was joined on stage at the Oak Mall Christmas lights switch-on by another of the 2014 hopefuls, and a well-known face in these parts, Emily Middlemas.

Emily won Inverclyde Megastars two years ago and also made it to the judges’ houses stage of this year’s X Factor, narrowly missing out on a place in the live shows.

Fans flocked to the Mall to see her friend and fellow contestant Stephanie, who was voted off the show four weeks ago after making it to the last 16.

But the crowd was stunned when the pair took to the stage together and performed a duet in what organisers say was one of the most successful switch-on events ever.

Mall manager Claire Jefcoate said: “It was one of the most successful events with crowds in the Oak Mall and a busy shopping day reported by the retailers.

“Stephanie delighted the Oak Mall customers with her surprise guest Emily.

“They sang a duet before Stephanie turned on the Christmas lights. Afterwards she performed several tracks and stayed for photographs with her fans.” But members of the audience weren’t the only ones who had a great time in Greenock.

After the show, Stephanie tweeted: “Absolutely loved it! Hopefully be back soon. Great crowd too.” Former Megastars champ Emily added: “So nice to have performed with Stephanie Nala at Oak Mall Christmas lights! Nice little surprise.” The X Factor girls were supported by up-and-coming Scottish girlband Echo, below, featuring Greenock singer Emma Louise.
