A POORLY pensioner has slammed housing bosses after the botched installation of a new central heating system at her home.

Isabel MacLeod, who is waiting for a triple bypass, claims she was left living in a mess after the work was carried out for Oak Tree Housing Association by contractors on 7 November.

The 72-year-old from Union Street says workmen left holes in the wall — which were later repaired — and debris in her kitchen and bathroom.

But the final straw came when she was told that they had fitted the wrong radiators.

She told the Tele: “Me and my neighbour picked different days so we could stay in each other’s houses when the work was getting done.

“When I got back in I nearly died when I saw the terrible mess of the place.

“There were nails in the shower and debris all over the kitchen worktop.

“I had a heart attack last year so I couldn’t clean it up by myself.” Isabel was left furious when she then received a phone call from contractors Wates to say the wrong radiators had been fitted and they would have to be ripped out again.

She said: “They’ve ordered other ones and they’re waiting for them to come in before they can put them in.

“They can’t tell me when.” The OAP says she had booked a decorator to do work in her home but might be forced to cancel now as a result.

She said: “Oak Tree is aware of my position.

“I feel I’ve been treated very badly.” “I have it in writing from Oak Tree that this was going to take two or three days — that was on 7 November and this is 19 November and nothing’s happened.

“Oak Tree have chosen the cheapest option and this is the result of it.

“I don’t need this when I’ve had a heart attack and I’ve been in hospital.” Bosses at Oak Tree Housing say they are still to receive final handover of the property and undertake an audit with the tenant.

But a spokesman said: “To date I am advised that our contactor’s representatives were very supportive to Ms MacLeod, lifting carpeting, lifting laminate flooring, packing household goods to protect them and moving these goods when access was required.

“I further understand carpets and flooring have been refitted on completion of the main part of the contract and in addition as part of the contract Oak Tree Housing Association replaced the floor coverings in both the bathroom and kitchen.

“The contractor did fit standard radiators rather than low surface temperature radiators, as specified, and this will be rectified at a time to suit Ms MacLeod.

“I understand that this is a matter of decoupling existing radiators and refitting replacements on the same fittings.

“Our evidence to date, whilst not yet complete, suggests this contract is being well run with a high level of tenant satisfaction.

“We apologise for the oversight on our contractor’s behalf and have taken steps to ensure similar errors will not reoccur.”
