CHRISTMAS has come early for a little Greenock girl after she was gifted a £10,000 fairytale holiday to Disney World.

Brave youngster Megan McGarva was born with a rare genetic disorder and needs 24-hour care.

Her parents Jane Christie and Stephen McGarva are constantly fundraising to give their wee girl the best life they can and have said this once-in-a-lifetime trip is a wonderful festive boost.

The family, including Megan’s older sister Rebecca, are jetting off on 1 December through national charity Caudwell Children’s Destination Dreams.

Jane, 47, of Burns Road, said: “When we told the girls they were so excited.

“We just couldn’t wait to tell Megan, her face just lit up at the news.

“She can’t speak but she gave us that look that said, ‘I’m so excited’.

“She absolutely adores Minnie Mouse, so the thought of seeing her and meeting the characters for the first time is an amazing one for her.

“I can’t want to see Megan and Rebecca’s faces when they get there.

“The whole experience is going to be out of this world.” Megan, eight, has a condition called CDKL5 which means she suffers from frequent seizures, can’t walk or talk and needs a wheelchair to get around.

The Craigmarloch pupil is also visually impaired, has poor muscle tone, curvature of the spine and gastrointestinal difficulties which require a special diet.

Her family had applied for the trip twice before, but were thrilled that it’s third time lucky.

Jane said: “We’re all so excited, it’s going to be brilliant.

“I think once Megan’s there she will really enjoy it. The rides are all adapted and can take wheelchairs. In most theme parks over here there are no rides she can go on.

“We’re staying in a specially adapted village and there’s the Castle of Miracles where there are gold stars on the ceiling with the names of 100,000 kids from all over the world who have visited the village. Megan will get her name on a star and it will be there forever.

“We been told to take an empty case for all the goodies she will get.” Jane said: “We’re taking a video camera, so hopefully we can capture a few nice memories. It will also be good to meet other people who have kids with special needs.” Stephen, 51, who has been fundraising with his colleagues from Amazon, said: “It means an awful lot to us.” The fabulous week-long trip was only made possible through donations from the local community.

The charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, announced last month that they needed extra funds to cover the cost of ancillary emergency medical equipment for their annual Destination Dreams trip to Disney World Florida.

Thanks to the generosity of the people of Inverclyde, the charity smashed its target, meaning Megan will get the chance to meet her Disney favourites.

Trudi Beswick, chief executive at Caudwell Children, was delighted by the outcome of the appeal. She said: “The public’s generosity will give Megan and her family the experience of a lifetime.

“Donations have come in from all parts of the community, from individuals, family and friends holding charity cake sales and the like, to donations from local businesses. People have given via the Just Giving Page while many have simply sent cheques through the post. It’s been a true community effort.” The family will join 24 other families who will head out on the dream trip from Gatwick Airport next month.
