A GREENOCK woman has told of the fear she felt as a ‘waterfall’ suddenly flooded in through the roof of her home.

Catherine Bruce was doing some housework when a cascade of water suddenly crashed in through her ceiling in the hallway.

In blind panic she phoned the fire brigade and her landlord River Clyde Homes, who both came to her rescue.

But the 51-year-old, who lives with her mum Helen in a maisonette style property in Rankin Street, said she is now facing a hefty repair bill.

Catherine said: “I was just doing some washing when the next minute, water started pouring through the roof.

“I phoned the fire brigade and they came out and were so helpful.

“There was so much water that it filled five mop buckets and a wheelie bin. I’m still in shock about it and I’m worried it’s going to happen again.” As a result of the flood, Catherine says she will have to replace her vinyl flooring and fix the ceiling.

Keith Moore, communications manager at River Clyde Homes, said they were on hand to help Catherine immediately and have also offered her advice about the situation.

He said: “Ms Bruce contacted us on Saturday 8 November after she had been flooded by the property above, which is privately owned.

“Our electrician attended immediately and made safe the electrics within Ms Bruce’s home.

“We have now arranged for an inspection of her home to be carried out and advised that she should contact her insurance company if any of her personal possessions have been damaged.”
