PORT councillor Jim MacLeod has praised the council’s ‘go green’ success with the launch of a new kerbside glass recycling scheme.

The SNP deputy leader said the council is now one of the best performing in Scotland.

He says the latest initiative will build on this success.

Councillor MacLeod said: “The council are now doing very well with our level of recycling.

“Our recycling levels in Inverclyde are at 60 per cent and now among the best councils in Scotland. With glass collection now being added this will help boost our recycling even further.” He says great strides have been made to increase recycling levels throughout the district.

Councillor MacLeod said: “When I first got elected in 2007 Inverclyde Council at that time had a pretty poor record with recycling, and was among some of the poorest performing local authorities in Scotland.

“But in the past few years we have improved our recycling levels immensely through the hard work of our council recycling team, not forgetting the enthusiasm and co-operation by the wider Inverclyde community and the assistance of education programmes in our schools.

“There children are being taught the importance of taking more care of our environment and better protecting our planet.”
