HUNDREDS of shoppers were evacuated from Tesco’s Greenock store yesterday after the fire alarm went off at 1pm.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said the alarm was caused by faulty equipment and no-one was in any danger.
Everyone returned to the Dalrymple Street store by 1.40pm.
A Tesco spokesman said: “We apologise to all of our customers for any inconvenience.
“An engineer was called immediately to work on the alarm.”
