EFFORTLESSLY elegant guests gathered at Greenock Town Hall for a glittering charity cabaret dinner.

Champagne flowed and the red carpet was rolled out for the swanky event, which raised more than £12,000 for Greenock Medical Aid Society — the charity which runs Glenfield and Bagatelle care homes.

Guests sporting fancy frocks and bow ties enjoyed a reception before sampling some posh nosh while being entertained by acts such as The Singing Waiters, who performed classical, opera and modern pop songs.

Rapturous applause also echoed through the beautifully decorated town hall when the Pure Dynamic String Quartet took to the stage to perform a variety of fine tunes.

A charity raffle and auction saw an array of fabulous prizes up for grabs, including a day’s sailing for four people with lunch and drinks on a luxury yacht, and bed and breakfast at the five star Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh. Charles Young, chief executive of the Medical Aid Society, thanked everyone for making it such a spectacular night.

He said: “We were very fortunate to have received many excellent auction items which attracted strong bids.

“I was also particularly pleased with the tremendous support we’ve had from many of the local hotels and restaurants who have donated meal vouchers which always add that bit of spice to the charity raffle.” He also praised all the big-hearted companies for their support as well as the society’s PR and fundraising committee who planned the event.

Charles added: “The support we received from many local businesses both large and small has been fantastic particularly when you consider the current difficult market trading conditions many of them are continuing to face.

“We endeavoured to generate as much publicity for these businesses as we could at the event so that their support for the society was acknowledged by the 200 or so guests”.

The guest speaker on the night was the renowned Port Glasgow butcher and acclaimed after-dinner speaker, Drew McKenzie, who had the audience rolling around with laughter.

A grand total of £12,355 was raised on the night, which will be used to refurbish rooms at both Bagatelle and Glenfield.
