Gary Bradley, pictured, sank his teeth into the 64 year-old pensioner during the horrific attack in Greenock last October.

The innocent pensioner was set upon when she tried to drag Bradley away from another man, who he had also bitten.

The 28-year-old – who has a long history of violence – is behind bars after pleading guilty to two assault charges.

A judge told Bradley at the High Court in Glasgow that what he had done was “almost incredible”.

Bradley will learn his fate when he returns to the dock next month.

The court heard how drunken Bradley was at a bus stop in Kilblain Street on October 22 when he started pestering a young woman.

She moved away, but when they got on a bus, he tried to again talk to the woman asking her for ‘a smile’.

Another passenger told her to ignore Bradley, but he swore at the man and then told him to ‘shut up’.

A concerned man, 43, – who was also on the bus – then offered to get off at the same stop as the woman.

But prosecutor Richard Goddard told the court this appeared to make Bradley “angry”.

Mr Goddard said: “He then then got out his seat and punched this man on the back of the head, seized hold of him then punched him again.

“The complainer took hold of the accused and, in the course of a struggle, Bradley bit him on the head and on his left arm.” The court heard the OAP then decided to intervene – but Bradley pounced on her.

Mr Goddard went on: “She got up from her seat to try and separate them. Bradley then bit the little finger of her left hand.” Bradley had a go again at the man, before leaving the bus and his victims.

Other shocked passengers dialled 999, leading to the pensioner and male passenger going to hospital. The court was told she was found to have lost the tip of her finger. The pensioner went through two operations to help cover the end of her finger.

Advocate depute Mr Goddard explained: “She will be permanently disfigured and has lost approximately an inch of her finger as a result of the assault.” The man suffered wounds to his head and arm before being released from hospital.

Bradley, of Greenock, was later traced by police and was found to be wearing blood stained clothes.

Thomas Ross, defending, said Bradley was ‘very ashamed’ at what happened and apparently had no idea a woman had been brutally assaulted.

Lady Rae deferred sentencing until next month for reports.

She told Bradley: “It is almost incredible that a man would behave in this way.

“You bit two victims in a completely unprovoked attack. They were trying to stop your unwanted advances towards a young female.

“It just shows how you behave while drunk, but no-one forced the drink down your throat.” Bradley’s brother Patrick was killed in 2013 after he was stabbed for stealing a young man’s iPhone.

The boy’s dad Derek Grant was jailed for six years last September after he pled guilty to culpable homicide.
