TARTAN tots toasted the Bard in traditional style when they enjoyed an afternoon of dancing, music and food.

Pupils at King’s Oak Primary in Greenock looked every inch the part as they paid tribute to Robert Burns ahead of Burns Night tomorrow.

The primary two class donned hand made hats and roses for their patriotic party.

They joined their parents for a hearty meal of haggis, neeps and tatties before they recited Burns’ poems including ‘My Love is Like a Red Red Rose’.

Then it was time to take the floor for some Scottish country dancing.

Little Billy Cunningham and classmate Summer Taggart particularly enjoyed performing the Canadian Barn dance.

Billy said: “We’ve really enjoyed learning all about Robert Burns.

“I’ve learned that he was born in 1759.” Summer added: “I know that he married Jean Armour and that he was born in Alloway and his father also worked on a farm.” Class teacher Julie McLeary says the pupils have been enthralled as they learn all about the bard’s remarkable life.

She said: “The pupils have been watching presentations about Robert Burns and hearing stories about him.

“They have also been creating portraits of him and made their own red roses and hearts to go with his poem.

“We thought it would be a nice idea for them to have their own Burns supper with their parents so they can show them how much they’ve learned.”
