A GREENOCK stuntman is playing a starring role in the new Colin Firth movie Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Craig Miller worked closely with the star on the film and he also helped to choreograph fight scenes.

The blockbuster, by Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughan, has a stellar cast including legendary actor Michael Caine and Pulp Fiction star Samuel L Jackson.

The spy action flick is currently packing out cinemas across the country.

Craig, 31, told the Tele he loved being involved in the big budget blockbuster.

He said: “It was a brilliant experience.

“Colin kills me five or six times.

“I’m also sitting right beside him in a truck scene.” The martial arts expert says he was thrilled to see the finished item on the big screen.

He said: “It was all a bit weird but it was quite exciting for me to see how the film all fitted together.” The local man was swift to praise Oscar winner Firth for his role as a veteran secret agent who leads a young protege into the world of espionage.

Craig said: “He was under a lot of pressure.

“He’s not a physical kind of guy and he had to go on an intensive 12-week training course, but he was so nice. He was relying on us, the stunt guys, for health and safety advice.

“I was right beside him the whole time and for me who is trying to get more into the acting side of things, it was just incredible.” Craig also relished meeting Jackson on set.

He said: “He was such a fun guy.

“I’ve never met anyone who works so hard.

Craig was brought up in Branchton but spent 11 years in Hong Kong as a technical stunt performer, actor and model.

He still regularly jets over to Hong Kong for work and has starred in several films shot there.

Craig said: “Stunt performing is hard physically – it’s tough getting beaten up every day!

“But I also feel like a bit of a kid, playing a zombie and a soldier.

“It’s just enormous fun.” Craig has another few projects in the pipeline and also stars as an MI5 agent in Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film Grimsby, which is due for release next February.

He said: “The bosses for Kingsman are the same bosses for Grimsby, so I’m doing the networking bit. I’m hoping it will open up my career internationally.”
