The residential development at the old Navy Buildings was expected to be passed last month but councillors insisted on making a site visit first.

As they reconvened at a meeting this afternoon, they decided to give the project the green light.

It means the bulldozers can move in to flatten the old Navy HQ off Eldon Street. The maritime building, which also housed Clyde Coastguard, was mothballed by the Ministry of Defence in 2012.

Drum Property Group will build five blocks containing almost 100 apartments in its place. They have described the location as ‘one of the best in the west of Scotland’.
