The all day ‘Fake Festival’ will see tribute acts to the The Stone Roses, U2 and The Jam take to the stage at Battery Park on Saturday 25 July.
Festival organisers are also giving five local bands the chance to perform at the event.
Hundreds of local music fans have already given the event the thumbs up, with over 500 people joining a Facebook event page.
The acts which have been confirmed include The Total Stone Roses — graduates from Leeds College of Music who strive to re-create the ‘Roses sound live’. Also taking to the stage will be ‘New2’, a Bradford based U2 tribute band.
The tribute bill is completed by The Jam’d from Skegness, who describe themselves as the ‘UK’s number one tribute to The Jam’.
As well as music, the organisers hope to have a marquee with a licensed bar and an outside food and entertainment area.
A spokeswoman for Inverclyde Council confirmed discussions are under way before the appropriate licences are issued.
She said: “The event organisers are currently in discussion with our licensing team to ensure the appropriate licenses are in place for the event.” Organisers want the event to kick off at 12.30pm in the afternoon and finish at 11pm.
