A BROTHER and sister sporting double act could make history by sending their school into two national finals for the first time.

Notre Dame High’s football captain Kwame Antoine will be hoping to take his side into the under-18s final of the Scottish Schools Cup.

At the same time his younger sister Savannah has also got her eye on silverware — as her netball team gear up for a Scottish Schools semi-final clash.

The double header would put them into the school record books.

Kwame, 17, from Greenock, said: “There is always a fair bit of competition in our house and it is getting tougher!

“We are both very proud to be part of this.

“The teams have all done well but there is plenty still to do.” Notre Dame’s football side managed to make it to the last four from a pool of 240 schools.

The date for their semi-final clash with Paisley Grammar has yet to be confirmed but if Kwame and his team-mates secure victory they will take Notre Dame into the football final for the first time.

Kwame’s other team — East End Boys’ Club — are also playing in the Scottish Cup Final.

The central midfielder said: “It’s been a great year so far.” Meanwhile, over in the netball court 14-year-old Savannah is the youngster member of an incredibly talented squad.

She plays in a school side that also includes two internationalists in Emma Mitchell and Mairi Shaw.

And Savannah is already all set to follow in their footsteps as she makes her way through the ranks of the development squads and stars for the local Clyde Netball team.

The third year pupil, who plays goal defence for the school, said: “It is a great achievement for the team.

“My parents are very proud to see both of us in the semi finals and they will definitely be there to cheer us on.

“I started playing netball when I was 10 and I just absolutely love it.” The signs are looking good for the side, who beat Arbroath in the quarters for the first time in three attempts.

The east coast side beat them in the final last year, so it was a sweet revenge for Notre Dame.

Savannah added: “We made a good comeback because we were quite a few goals down.” The team will play Holy Cross secondary from Hamilton in the semi-final later today.

Notre Dame principal PE teacher Andy Armour is over-the-moon at the achievements of both sides.

He added: “With the Commonwealth Games there has been a real focus on sport.

“We have been developing all this for a number of years and it takes time.

“We now hope that the kids coming up will look up to these teams and try to achieve the same as them.” The teacher also paid tribute to the dedication to the work of the staff who give up their own time to run the teams.

The under 18s football team is coached by maths teacher Tom O’Donnell and the under 18s netball team coach is Claire Munn, in charge of school sports competitions.

Members of the Notre Dame High under 18s netball team are: Emma Mitchell, Mairi Shaw, Megan Ruddy, Robyn Findlay, not in photo, Jennifer Robertson, Ellis Little, Savanah Antoine and Beth Murray.

The boys’ football squad is: Daniel Orr, Gregor Black, Taylor Lindsay, Luke McCowan, Kwame Antoine, Cory Hughes, Ryan Cannon, Steven Keyes, Lee Flynn, Adam Cleary, Mark McLachlan, Ryan McGeehan, Jay Devlin, Lewis Graham, Jamie McKay and Jack Campbell.
