WORKMEN have reached a key milestone as part of a major flood defence project in Greenock.
Part of the town’s busy Drumfrochar Road and Baker Street was closed for a few days while Inverclyde Council contractors lifted giant concrete culverts across the road to replace existing structures that ran through Wellington Park.
Wear and tear meant they were cracked and leaked during heavy rain.
The project is part of the council’s flood risk management plan to increase protection and stop water running across and down Drumfrochar Road.
It involved demolishing the existing brick arch culvert and replacing it under the access road to the park with a concrete box culvert.
