ACCLAIMED Greenock actor Martin Compston is taking on a new starring role tonight — in a party political broadcast for the SNP.

Campaigner Martin, pictured, will be helping deliver the party’s pre-general election message of ‘Who’s Going To Stand Up for Scotland?’ In the broadcast — being aired on major channels this evening — Martin states: “I remember when Labour used to stand up to the Tories, but that’s just not happening any more.

“It’s time for something positive, something different from cuts, cuts cuts.

“So who is going to shout NO WAY! to unfair policies?” SNP member Martin adds: “The question for us here in Scotland isn’t which Westminster party will become the next UK government...

“The question is who’s really going to stand up for Scotland?” Martin — best known for his roles in Greenock-filmed drama Sweet Sixteen and Monarch of the Glen — has been an SNP campaigner for a number of years.

The party’s Inverclyde Westminster candidate, Ronnie Cowan, said: “Martin is a magnificent example of what can be achieved with hard work, ambition and desire.

“He is a credit to himself, his family and Inverclyde.”
