MORTON stars took part in a ‘tyre-ing’ special shoot out to support youth teams in Inverclyde.

Some of the Ton team took time out of training at Parklea to have a go at Arnold Clark’s ‘Gear Up For Sport Challenge’, which saw them filmed while trying to squeeze the ball through tyres hanging from the crossbar.

To good-natured shouts of derision from their unimpressed team-mates, they managed to put four away in the dying seconds of the crossbar challenge.

But it was all in a good cause as they supported an initiative that gives away much needed kit to local teams in the area.

Manager Jim Duffy said: “The Gear Up For Sport task was certainly a challenge but the boys gave it their best attempt!

“As a club we always try to support our local community and the Gear Up For Sport initiative is a fantastic way to support youth teams in the local area.

“The giveaway supports teams like our own Morton Girls U13 team, who won kits from the competition last year.

“The more we can do in our local community to get kids active the better it is for everyone.” Arnold Clark’s Gear Up For Sport competition sees U14 teams across the UK battle it out to win brand new sports kits for their club.

All they have to do is send in a creative picture of their team.

To promote the competition a number of teams like Morton are taking part in the sporting challenge.

Eddie Hawthorne, managing director of Arnold Clark, said: “The fact that a team such as Morton are behind our Gear Up For Sport campaign means we can hopefully reach the audience who will really benefit from the competition.” This year the UK-wide car dealership is giving away 200 kits.

The competition is open to any U14s sides playing rugby, netball, football, basketball and cricket.

Sports teams have until 27 April to email a creative team photo to gear.up@arnoldclark.co.uk and Arnold Clark will then select 40 finalists per region and voting will commence online from 11 May.

The 200 winning teams will be announced on 10 June at www.arnoldclark.com/gearupforsport
