FIRE chiefs say a woman suffered neck and spinal injuries following a two vehicle crash in Greenock.

The smash happened in Duncan Street, near to the junction with Roxburgh Street, shortly before 7.30pm last night.

Two cars were involved in the collision, with one woman having to be cut free from the vehicle she was in.

She was then rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

Police and ambulance services were at the scene as well as two appliances from Greenock fire station, who were called to remove the roof of a white Ford.

Crew manager Paul McQueen, of Greenock fire station, said: “There was a two-car road traffic collision with persons trapped.

“The ambulance service were on the scene when the fire service arrived.

“Two private cars were involved and there was one female casualty, who was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital suffering spinal and neck injuries.” Firefighters spent around 45 minutes at the scene and the road was closed while emergency services carried out their work.
