INVERCLYDE’S Team Viper recently travelled to Stirling Albert Halls in support of local fighter Dean Elliott, one of their brightest young prospects.

Scottish Fight Challenge is one of the biggest Mixed Martial Arts promotions in the country, with fighters from all over the world in attendance.

Dean faced Dumbarton-based fighter Danny Gillespie, who fights out of the well-established Dinky Ninja fight team.

At the opening bell Danny came out fast, looking to land strong punches and kicks, but Dean remained unfazed and patiently waited for his moment to attack.

When Danny threw another punch Dean timed a beautiful double leg takedown which saw him lift his opponent high in the air before landing him on the canvas.

Dean, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion, proved to be too strong and technical for Danny and controlled him for the remainder of the round with crushing hold downs and strikes.

The second round saw Danny again opening up with hard punches and kicks but as before, Dean’s impeccable timing made his takedowns near impossible to avoid. On the ground Dean had settled into the fight and seamlessly transitioned between positions, constantly pressuring his opponent.

As Danny tried to push him off, Dean transitioned into an arm lock which left Danny with no choice but to submit to the young fighter via tap-out midway through the second round.

Coach Chris Carmichael said: “I’m very impressed by Dean’s performance.

“He showed a maturity and professionalism not often seen in fighters with as little experience and I believe he has a very bright future.” Dean Elliott fights again on Saturday alongside team-mate Steven Kelly on the Art of Combat show in Dunfermline.

Team Viper would like to thank NU-Image Windows and Dallas Carpets for their continued support.
