Courageous Leeanne Harrison suffered from serious complications after receiving a lifesaving kidney transplant before Christmas.

It left her fearing that her body would reject the organ and she would face more gruelling dialysis.

But against all the odds, she has pulled through and her new kidney is now functioning normally.

It means a double celebration for the 32-year-old — as her brave dad Christopher has just been told by medics that he has won his painful three-year battle against throat cancer.

Leeanne, who lives with her mum Janet, her dad and daughter Sarah in Methil Road, said: “It’s such a relief — the doctors have said that my kidney is working great.

“It was a worrying time over the past few months but it’s now a weight off my mind.

“I’ve still not got a lot of energy but I’m now able to spend a lot more time with my daughter, which is brilliant.

“We’re also over the moon that my dad has been given the all-clear from his throat cancer last week.

“It’s amazing to think what he’s come through and the fact he always had a smile on his face.” Earlier this year, the Tele reported how Christopher was lucky to be alive after he nearly bled to death when an artery burst open in his neck.

He described how he was ‘terrified’ when blood started spurting from a stoma in his neck following a major 14-hour operation to remove his voicebox.

After losing numerous pints of blood, the 61-year-old somehow survived, with doctors describing him as a miracle man.

Leeanne added: “We did have another scare with my dad a few weeks ago as he went back in to have an operation to fix the flaps in his throat as they were closing over and he was struggling to breathe.

“He also had another bleed from his stoma but it wasn’t as bad as before and he’s doing well.

“The doctors told him last week that all the cancer is gone, which is fantastic.

“I don’t think he’ll be able to talk again but he can use an iPad to communicate.” Christopher is also eating again, which is a big step on his road to recovery.

Leeanne added: “He’s still got a feeding tube in his stomach but he can take soup and ice-cream.

“For the first time in ages he came for breakfast at my granny’s house, which was lovely.”
