IT was green for go at Ardgowan as both the bowling greens and tennis courts were officially opened for the new season.

President Douglas Warnock welcomed around 140 guests, members and friends to the club and wished them every success in achieving their own individual goals for the season ahead.

He then invited his wife Anne to open the greens in the traditional fashion by delivering the first bowl.

Guests then made their way to the tennis courts where Cathie Morrison, wife of senior vice president Kenneth, served the first ball of the new season. Club secretary Gilbert McCracken said it was a thoroughly memorable day for all.

He said: “It was a lovely occasion as it was nice and sunny and we had players using both greens, which was unusual.

“About 130 to 140 people came along on the day, with around 70 of those playing.

“There was a great atmosphere.” After playing 10 ends, everyone gathered in the clubhouse for afternoon tea.

The thriving club, which celebrates its 175th anniversary next year, is always keen to attract new members.

Gilbert added: “Although the club is doing well, we’re always on the lookout for people to come along and join us.

“Anyone who is interested can pop down to the club.” At the weekend, Ardgowan hosted the under-25 Scotland Ladies Trial ahead of the under- 25 Ladies British Isles’ Championships in July.
