STAFF at Greenock’s Oak Mall collected thousands of pounds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

A fundraising day was held in the shopping centre encouraging the public to sponsor and name their own guide dog puppy, and support it during the first two years of training.

Guide dog owners, staff and volunteers were in the Mall to share their stories and talk to the public about volunteering opportunities.

Mall manager, Claire Jefcoate, said: “We’re really excited about our fundraising, and we also hope people will support us by coming along to our events during Guide Dog Week in October, when we will have a sensory unit within the shopping centre that shoppers can explore.

“The amount of training that goes into producing a guide dog is incredible, so we’re delighted to be able to do something to support that effort.” The shopping centre is also now home to two life-size collection dogs.

Natalie Macaulay of Guide Dogs thanked Mall staff for choosing to name a puppy.
