INVERCLYDE’S MP has yet to set up a constituency office — more than two months on from his landslide election win.

Ronnie Cowan is still searching for a suitable premises after being voted in on 8 May.

The SNP man says he is not rushing into a decision about an office because he wants to ensure best value for money for the taxpayer.

Mr Cowan said: “I am continuing to look at a number of options and once I have assessed their suitability I shall be in a position to decide what is best.

“Every expense that I undertake is met by the taxpayer, so I do not take spending this money lightly.” Earlier this month, Inverclyde Council leader Stephen McCabe offered his assistance to the newly-elected MP in securing an office following the pair’s first meeting since the election in May.

Mr McCabe said he had been asked for the local authority’s help in the MP’s office hunt and the Labour councillor agreed to speak to officers to help with ‘meeting his needs’.

In the meantime, Mr Cowan says constituents can contact him through various means and is keen to meet with constituents on a regular basis.

He said: “I’ve held a number of meetings and surgeries with constituents and I am more than happy to hold further such meetings with people who wish to discuss an issue or raise their specific case.

“As always, constituents can contact me in a number of ways, for example through social media, email and telephone.

“Contacting me via email, at ronnie.cowan.mp@parliament.uk, may be the easiest solution at this time.” Constituents can also reach their MP by calling 020 7219 6122, using Mr Cowan’s Twitter account — @ronniecowan or by visiting www.facebook.com/RonnieForInverclyde.
