The Royal Bank of Scotland’s Mortgage Centre in Greenock is the latest company to deliver an employment boost to the area.

The Tele can reveal that bosses are recruiting 70 new permanent telephony mortgage advisors, with a mixture of full-time and part-time positions which are being advertised on their website.

An RBS spokesman said the new jobs have been created as the call centre prepares to celebrate its 20th birthday next month.

He said: “It’s very positive that we are able to recruit for these positions locally within Inverclyde.

RBS has been part of the community for 20 years next month and these roles are a great success story.” Inverclyde MP Ronnie Cowan says the new jobs are a brilliant boost for the area.

He said: “This is a really good news.

“Any MP would say that you’ve got to bring two things together — encourage people to bring jobs to the area and encourage the area to make people job ready.

“I take no credit for this but we have a well and able workforce and this is an affirmation of that.

“All credit to RBS.” The good news comes just weeks after Webhelp UK, which is based close by to the mortgage centre at Cartsburn, announced it was creating 20 new jobs, bolstering its workforce to 250.

The jobs announcement from RBS comes after its bosses announced in May that the bank’s West Blackhall Street branch would close its doors on 9 September.

Over recent years, RBS has closed branches in Gourock and Port Glasgow but its mortgage division remains a key employer in the area, with almost 1,000 staff working there.
