MORE than a thousand Inverclyde voters are in danger of having their names removed from the electroal register.

The warning was given by Alasdair MacTaggart, electoral registration officer of Renfrewshire Valuation Joint Board.

They are currently sending out forms to ensure the register is up to date.

Mr MacTaggart said: “In Inverclyde, 1,632 electors are registered under the old household registration system and have failed to register under the new individual electoral registration process — despite numerous reminders.

“These electors are now in danger of having their name removed from the revised register of electors due to be published on 1 December 2015.” He said the board want to ensure the electoral register is up to date — and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.

Mr MacTaggart said this is an opportunity for residents to make sure they will be able to take part in the Scottish Parliamentary elections in May.

He added: “Anyone that wants to vote must be registered. To make sure you are able to have your say at the election, simply check the form when it arrives and return it as promptly as possible.

“Voter engagement is vital to the success of this year’s electoral canvass, and through the provision of an automated service, electors are able to make a return via the internet, telephone or by text message.

“If you’re not currently registered, we’ll send you information explaining how to do this, or you can just go online to apply to register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote” Any residents who have questions can contact the election registration helpline on 0300 300 0150.
