CLOWNING around was the name of the game as a comedy circus school visited a Greenock playscheme.

Juggling, plate spinning and mini bike routines were just some of the fun activities on offer at a super circus workshop at Craigend Resource Centre’s summer kids’ club.

Youngsters aged from eight to 12 were in stitches as they watched the hilarious Fuzzy’s and Britta’s Circus School at King’s Oak Primary.

Their excitement then reached fever pitch when Tele photographer George Munro bravely agreed to put down his camera and take part in the ‘walk of death’ stunt where Graham Benson, also known as Fuzzy, walked above him whilst juggling knives.

George got a round of applause from the 40-strong audience as he brushed himself off and got back to work. Young Jamie Gemmell, who was celebrating his ninth birthday, said: “It was amazing.

“I can’t wait to learn how to juggle.” Eleven-year-old Emma Dow was also inspired by the event. She said: “I was impressed with the juggling.” Jenna Kelly, one of the play leaders at Craigend, said that the children enjoyed trying their hand at some of the circus tricks.

She said: “The kids watched a medieval-themed circus show and then they got the chance to try out tricks such as juggling, plate spinning and tricycles.

“It’s something different. Events like this keep them busy over the summer holidays.” Graham, who has been performing and giving workshops for over 10 years, was thrilled to bring his professional act to Greenock again.

He said: “This is the second year I’ve been here, and it’s a great place to perform. I start off with a circus show, then the children get to try out different skills, which they enjoy.”
