IT was a case of love at first snowball fight for two sweet soulmates who are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary today.

Allan Wallace says he’ll always remember the moment he met his wife Margaret — as she splattered a snowball cake in his face during a lunch break at the factory where they worked!

But he managed to get himself out of the sticky situation and the couple are now celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Allan, 68, who lives with Margaret, 67, in Curlew Crescent, said: “We both worked in Thomas Boag’s bag store.

“I’ll never forget the moment we met as we all used to stand outside to smoke at dinner time and we were having a carry on.

“Margaret then stuck a snowball in my face.” It’s a moment Margaret will neither forget either.

She said: “He was annoying me so I stuck the snowball in his face.” But after brushing off the crumbs, love soon blossomed for Allan and Margaret, who started dating before tying the knot at St Andrew’s RC Church in Auchmead Road on 31 July 1965.

After the wedding, they stayed with Allan’s mum’s before settling in Wren Road, where they lived for about 20 years before moving to their home in Curlew Crescent.

The couple, who have a son, Allan, 49, and a daughter, Pamela, 40, have been blessed with seven grandchildren and two great grandchilden.

They say the recipe for a long and happy marriage is simple.

Margaret said: “We have just got on with life and have taken it as it comes. We would be lost without each other — we’re soulmates.” To mark their momentous milestone, the couple will go for a celebratory meal in Greenock.
