A SINGER from Greenock is sending out a message to people never to give up on their dreams — as she records her first album at the age of 54.

Actress and all round entertainer Sandra Harrison has pulled out all the stops to release a collection of her favourite songs.

On the album, entitled Living the Dream, she has collaborated with a number of musicians she has known all her life.

Now Sandra, who has starred on the small screen and in films, is hoping this will be the first of many records.

Sandra, who stays in Pennyfern, said: “I really am living the dream — this is all I have ever wanted to do.

“I was born to be on stage and I first performed at three.

“I used to say that I wanted to record an album before I died.

“Now my dream is to record 10!

“I have to thank everyone who has helped on the album, including my brother Francis and George Carruthers.” A familiar figure in the local music and drama scene, Sandra is following in the family tradition.

Her dad was well known local singer Johnny Harrison and as the youngest in a family of 10 she was well used to putting herself forward.

She said: “It was just expected that I would go the stage. You had to sing or play an instrument in my house.

“I also worked on my performances, taking singing lessons.” Sandra has secured a publisher to print copies of her album, which includes Loch Lomond, Wind Beneath My Wings and songs written by her friend Sam Cooke.

Her nephew in Australia Johnny McGuiness also took the photographs for her cover.

Sandra, who studied drama at college, has secured parts in a number of dramas and recently played a dinner lady in Greenock-based TV drama Waterloo Road.

Sandra added: “I worked with amazing people.” To get a copy of Sandra’s album contact her on 07597 69332.
