YOUNGSTERS are invited to hit the high notes at a local brass band’s free taster day tomorrow.

The Riverside Youth Band are inviting children of all abilities to try out instruments at St John’s Church hall in Port Glasgow and Kilmacolm Old Kirk in Kilmacolm.

There will be an opportunity to chat with existing players to find out more about being part of the ensemble. Adam Richardson, a trombone player with the band, is encouraging local kids to come along.

He said: “The band is a wonderful thing to be a part of. This is one of many things young people can choose to do outside school, so it’s wonderful that they choose to come here to take part in some terrific music-making while having fun at the same time.” The band, led by Mark Good, was established three years ago to help young musicians thrive by performing at concerts and competitions across the country. The open day at St John’s hall from 1pm-2pm and at Kilmacolm Old Kirk from 2.30pm-3.30pm.
