MORTON manager Jim Duffy passed on some tricks of the trade to school sports captains.
Senior pupils were taking part in a workshop at Greenock Wanderers’ ground to inspire them to lead others onto the field of play.
They spent time with the Ton boss as well as Scottish hockey player Alison Howie.
The schools captain programme hopes to motivate more young people to get sporty.
Education and Communities Convener Councillor Terry Loughran said: “We often talk about peer pressure among young people in a negative way but this is a perfect example of how it can work for the good.
“We now have the best sporting facilities available in all of our secondary schools and I am sure the efforts of our sports captains will encourage and cajole increasing numbers of young people to make full use of them.
“Sport plays a vital role in living healthier lifestyles and of course can be a great way to have fun and make friends.” The sports captains programme involves all six secondary schools, who were represented on the day.
Inverclyde Council’s Sports Champion Councillor Ronnie Ahlfeld believes that that school captains show all the qualities need to be leaders.
He added: “They understand that sport should be enjoyed by participants of all abilities.”
