TWO buses were destroyed after a deliberate blaze was started today at a bus depot.

Around £100,000 of damage was caused as a 49-seat coach and a 16-seat minibus belonging to Scott Ellis Travel were completely destroyed in the fire during the early hours of Sunday morning at Earnhill Industrial Estate.

A third bus was also slightly damaged during the blaze, which was discovered around 2am.

Police and two appliances from Gourock Fire Station attended, with firefighters taking around 55 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Officers from Greenock CID and scenes of crime were in attendance this morning examining the area for clues - with the incident being treated as wilful fireraising.

DC Sharon Crawford said: "The damage is in the region of £100,000 and enquiries are continuing into the cause of the fire, although it is being treated as deliberate."

Police have asked anyone who saw anything suspicious, or anyone who may know anything about the cause of the fire, to contact them on 492500.
