RESIDENTS in upper Port Glasgow are furious after the entire contents of a house was dumped on their street.

People living in and around Mallaig Road say the mountain of rubbish – which includes no fewer than eight televisions, four computer screens, an Xbox console and games, two microwaves and a pile of clothes – is still there two weeks after being removed from a property.

The items were left outside and stretch from its front door right around the corner, blocking public pathways and making for an unsightly welcome for neighbours and visitors.

It also contains a sofa, electric fire, vacuum cleaner, children’s high chair and toys, a bed, mirror, dining room chairs and assorted furniture and cabinets.

It is understood the house is privately owned and that the landlord had the property emptied after the most recent tenant left.

But residents say that was over a fortnight ago and they are livid that the mess has still not been cleaned up.

One, who did not want to be named, said: “A lot of stuff was taken away on Saturday for a bonfire, there was a big unit and shelves. There’s people who have actually been adding to it.”

One local man also claimed that the rubbish is attracting vermin.

He said: “It’s disgusting.

“There’s been rats seen at it.”

Another angry neighbour added: “There’s a full house currently lying on the street and it’s less than five yards from someone’s front door.

“I’ve phoned Inverclyde Council three times in the last few days and they know it’s there.

“It’s been lying for two weeks and nothing has been done.

“It doesn’t matter who dumped it, it needs to be moved.”

A council spokesman said: “We are aware of the issue on Mallaig Road and our officers are carrying out a full investigation.

“Action will be taken against those responsible and the council will require the removal of the rubbish.”
