A PORT Glasgow care home worker has been recognised for her outstanding work with residents living with dementia.

Jennifer Marshall, who is a senior carer at Marchmont, was shortlisted for a national award by her manager for her outstanding contribution.

In her nomination, the Scottish Care Award judges heard that she gives up her own time and donates money to research sensory aids for those with dementia.

Her manager Jan McPhee said: “Jennifer is a team player who always motivates those around her. She has made such a huge impact in the home and she is hugely professional. Jennifer has given up her own time and donated the cost to make sensory equipment for the benefit of our residents living with dementia.

“She is a real asset to us all and we are very proud of her.”

At the award ceremony, Jennifer was announced as the runner-up in the carer category after impressing judges with her work ethic.

Jennifer, 35, of Devol, Port Glasgow, said: “I was absolutely shocked to be nominated and then shortlisted. I just do my job as best as I can. I love the job. You all become a great, big extended family.

“I think the most important quality you can have is compassion and a sense of humour.”

As well as working in Marchmont, Jennifer, right, is mum to her 14-year-old daughter Sophie.

She said: “Sophie and my dad Sam are very proud of me.”
