GENEROUS children in Port Glasgow went above and beyond to help others in need over the festive period.

Youngsters who attend the I Youth Zone in Dubbs Road hosted a coffee afternoon where they handed over boxes of food to the Church Angels project, which is also based in Port Glasgow.

Caroline McCahill, a learning development youth worker, says she is overwhelmed by their kindness, especially as the food will help those who are facing hardship.

She said: “The charity coffee afternoon was organised by the young people in partnership with the Co-op shop across the road.

“The Knitting Pin in Dubbs Road also set up a Santa’s grotto with the proceeds going to the Special Olympics.

“The young people decided to collect food for the Church Angels, which will be distributed to people most in need.”

Gary Watt, who is the assistant manager at the Co-op, said they are happy to support such an important community project.

He said: “The I Youth Zone is a really good organisation and we’re keen to do anything we can to help them.”

Caroline is keen to thank everyone for supporting the event, especially Gary and The Kafay in Dubbs Road.

Thanks also go to Caroline’s colleague Jane Brown.
