A PORT schoolboy was streets ahead when he landed a picture with glamorous Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan.

John Rodgers, 12, was at the Celtic game at Parkhead on Saturday with his dad when they saw the soap actress in the car park.

His dad, also John, said he was the first person to get a snap with the celebrity, who plays Rosie Webster in Coronation Street and is girlfriend of Celtic player Scott Sinclair.

John, 45, of Port Glasgow, said: “We were waiting in the car park to see all the players coming in and then I saw her.

“I said to John: ‘that’s Rosie out of Corrie, quick get your picture taken to show your mum!’ but John didn’t know who she was!

“She was with the other players’ wives.

“John was the first to go up and then the place was swarming with people, she was mobbed.”

John, who’s self-employed, said Helen was very friendly and chatted away.

He said: “She asked how everyone was and asked if we were looking forward to the game.

“I think John was a bit embarrassed when she put her arm around him.

“I sent the picture to my wife Anne-Marie and when I sent it she replied and said: ‘that’s my boy’!”

John’s sisters Danielle, 26, and Tiffany, 20, were swift to share the image on social media, while his pals at St Stephen’s High School were also impressed with his claim to fame.

John who plays for Port Glasgow Boys’ Club has met lots of famous players and keeps an autograph book.

His dad said: “I’ve posted pictures of all the photos with the players.

“This was more like meeting a celebrity, I think it made his day, getting all the attention.”
