A CRASH victim from Port Glasgow has been rushed to hospital following a horrific motorcycle accident in France which has left his friend dead.

Businessman Graeme Auld and his companion were believed to be returning from a trip to the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday when the fatal smash occurred as they rode through Nice.

The Foreign Office has confirmed that a man — understood to be Mr Auld — is currently being treated by hospital medics in the French city.

The nature of his injuries and his condition has not been released by officials, although British consular staff are said to be ‘supporting’ his family.

Mr Auld, 50, who ran a garage business in the Port’s Glasgow Road, was understood to have been on a visit to Monte Carlo for Sunday’s Formula 1 race.

He and his friend were said to be on their journey back from the event when the tragic crash happened.

No-one was available for comment at Mr Auld’s garage, which was padlocked shut.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman told the Telegraph: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has been hospitalised in Nice.

“We remain in contact with the French hospital services.”

It is understood that the man who was killed in the accident is a British national.
