POLICE Scotland’s Major Investigations Team has been drafted in to head a probe after a woman’s body was found in a Port Glasgow flat.

Officers were called to Kelburn Terrace at 1.15pm on Friday and remained at the scene over the weekend.

A cordon was put up around the close where the grim find was made and police officers could be seen going in and out of the building.

The deceased has not been named and officers say that they are still investigating the sudden death.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland told the Telegraph that a post mortem had taken place, but said the death was at this stage still unexplained.

She said: “The Major Investigations Team are looking into the death of the woman.”

The spokeswoman added that the major investigation unit gets involved in various types of cases, including missing persons.

Anyone with information who may be able to assist the police should call 101.
