CHOCOLATE making classes are proving a tasty proposition for a Port Glasgow confectioner.

The New Chocolate Company, based at Kelburn Business Park, have come up with the idea to keep youngsters entertained over the school summer holidays.

Children aged between seven and 17 will be allowed access to the Port factory for lessons with expert chocolatiers, including boss Joanne Dick, who founded the company with husband Brian earlier this year.

Youngsters will be given a unique insight into the history of chocolate and how it is made before being let loose to come up with their own creations.

Company chief Joanne, who lives in the Port, said: “It’s wonderful to give children the opportunity to see where chocolate comes from, work with it themselves and have a look inside the factory.”

Staff recently held taster sessions with some local children and they were overwhelmed with the reaction.

Joanne said: “The trial run went very well.

“They all loved it and their parents said they were talking about it all weekend.”

Bosses are also hoping to roll out adult workshops later in the year.

The company mainly caters for the corporate sector supplying luxury and bespoke confectionery treats for big businesses and earlier this year took on two new members of staff.

Joanne said: “Things have been going very well.

“We’re not having to work nightshift to keep up with demand — yet.

“But we’re very busy, especially because our chocolate is so fresh.”
