ANIMAL welfare workers came to the rescue of a fox that was trapped near Port Glasgow’s boardwalk.
It’s believed it became stuck among rocks held in place by metal wiring after crawling through a fox tunnel.
The Scottish SPCA’s animal rescue officer, Jan Toraman, said the animal was trapped in a very strange and awkward space, so it wasn’t an easy rescue.
She said: “Thankfully an off duty fireman came to help with bolt cutters, which allowed us to cut the metal sheeting around the animal and remove him.
“This fox was very lucky to have been discovered as he would have perished otherwise.
“Luckily he didn’t come to any harm while being trapped, so we were able to release him into a wooded area close by to ensure he was safe.”
Jan added: “After we got the fox out, we noticed rocks moving down and think there has previously been a fox tunnel but rocks have collapsed into it.”
Anyone concerned about the welfare of an animal should contact SPCA helpline 03000 999 99.
