WORKERS from Ferguson’s shipyard have donated £2,500 to Ardgowan Hospice.

In the past, events such as sponsored cycles, runs and charity football matches have been held by staff at the yard to raise funds for the charity.

This time round decided to give up money from their own wages.

The grand total collected at the yard since 1997 now stands at an impressive £36,643.

Fund treasurer Lawrence Gemmell said: “The hospice is a special place for us.

“Not only is it local but a few of the guys here have experienced its services.”

Grateful staff from the hospice describe the donation as ‘ridiculously generous’.

Anne-Marie Fry, marketing and communications officer, said: “On behalf of the hospice I would like to say a big thank-you.

“These funds could allow us to offer over 100 journeys using our free hospital transport service to specialist appointments.”

Over 60 per cent of the hospice’s running costs are met through fundraising and donations and all the cash it receives is used to support the local community.
