THE family of young Port ice skater Jayden Orr who tragically collapsed and died last year are organising a charity ball in his honour.

His mum Kathleen and dad John have launched a Tele-backed campaign to put life-saving defibrillators in every school in Inverclyde in his memory.

Now they are bringing together family, friends and the local community to raise as much money as they can at Jayden’s Rainbow ball.

Their 10-year-old son died suddenly while on the rink training and his parents are determined that his name will live on and leave a legacy of helping other people.

Kathleen said: “This is so important to me and my family.

“I have had a lot of help and support from people across Inverclyde.

“I hope people can make it along on the night and have fun while raising money for a great cause.

“This is a family night in memory of Jayden so we want people to bring their children.”

Ice-skating star Jayden, who was a popular pupil at Newark Primary, died last August.

Earlier this year his family opened a charity shop, Jayden’s Rainbow, in Jamaica Street to raise funds for the campaign cause.

Their charity ball takes place on Friday March 23.

There will be a charity auction and a buffet, plus entertainment from the Men of Motown, a kids’ corner and prize raffles.

Tickets are priced £20 and £10 for children and available through the Jayden’s Rainbow page on Facebook.

The charity shop at 1 Jamaica Street is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

If you would like to support the campaign to put a defibrillator in every local school you can pledge online.
