THIRTY new jobs look set to be created at Port Glasgow Retail Park as a frozen food firm unveils plans to open at the site.

Bosses at Iceland hope to bring their Food Warehouse frozen food store to the retail park.

The company has applied for permission to make alterations to a 10,000 sq ft unit in preparation for the outlet opening later this year.

Alastair Dickie, director at retail park developers Ediston Real Estate, said: “This would be a another key tenant added to the retail park.

“We are nearly fully let now, we just have one more unit which is available.”

The store combines frozen food with groceries and chilled products as well as household goods.

A spokesman for The Food Warehouse said: “We are hoping to open one of our larger The Food Warehouse stores in Port Glasgow Retail Park later this year, but this remains subject to contract.

“We have so far opened 56 The Food Warehouse stores across the UK and each opening typically creates around 30 new jobs.”

The development of the unit is expected to cost around £80,000, with a new first floor and stairs being formed.

A lift will also be installed and internal fit-out works will be required.
