A LEADING outdoor clothing and equipment company based in Port Glasgow has taken on 14 new staff.

AMG Group, which owns brands including Vango and Blacks of Greenock, has increased its workforce by 15 per cent.

The company is based in Kelburn Business Park and also has an office in Glasgow and a distribution centre in Renfrew.
Bosses say the new appointments follow the continued success of the company.

Steve Newlands, chief executive of AMG Group, said: “This is a very exciting period of growth for the business, one in which we are investing in our team to ensure we continue to achieve our future goals.

“Welcoming new people to the AMG family is always a pleasure.”

Among the appointments is Shona Quigley, who has taken on the role of chief financial officer.

Joining her at the Port HQ are graphic and film designer, James Robertson, assistant produce manager Jason Gilmour, web and e-commerce assistant Stacey Cummings and Daniel Julier-Smith, who is in charge of sales in England.

The new recruits take the firm’s permanent workforce to 113.
AMG distributes its portfolio, which also includes brands such as F10 Series, Lichfield, Wayfayrer, Anatom and Teko, to over 40 countries worldwide and recently opened a Renfrew distribution centre to meet demand and allow for expansion.

Bernie McGown, the company’s HR and operations director, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Shona on board as chief financial officer, who brings with her decades of experience from within the financial sector, which will be a vital asset to AMG’s continued expansion.

“Shona will be joined at our Port Glasgow HQ by fellow new starts, Jason, James and Stacey, who bring their respective talents to our design, web and creative teams, with Daniel looking after sales in the south.”
