A GIANT Easter egg is set to raise a cracking amount of money for a charity appeal by Inverclyde school pupils.

The New Chocolate Company has donated one of its super-sized sweet treats to students from Port Glasgow High to help raise cash for Alzheimer Scotland.

The confectionery firm, based in the town’s Kelburn Business Park, came up with the egg-stra special product to celebrate Easter and support a good cause.

It is made of milk, white and dark chocolate and took 36 hours to manufacture.

The Port High’s Kingston House will now raffle it off for charity and they hope people shell out for the chance to win it.

House captains Reece Mullan and Niamh McKenna were delighted to accept the massive egg from company boss and chocolatier Brian Dick.

Niamh said: “We picked Alzheimer Scotland because it affects so many people and we want to do something to help.”

The senior pupils are now busy selling raffle tickets and will announce the winner before the Easter holidays.

Reece said: “It will be very hard not to eat it ourselves!”

The New Chocolate Company is also donating giant eggs to Ardgowan Hospice to help them raise money and to the Greenock Telegraph for an egg-citing reader competition.

Brian, who runs the firm with his wife Joanne, said: “We’re always developing delicious new flavours and new products, and with Easter coming up, we wanted to do something extra-special, so we produced this giant egg.

“This is the first time we’ve made an egg this size and we’re delighted with how it’s turned out, and that it will now help the school raise money for such a worthy cause.”

Port High head teacher, Stuart Clark, hopes the egg ensures money comes rolling in for the pupils’ chosen charity.

Mr Clark said: “We are delighted with the kind donation from The New Chocolate Company.

“We decided to pass it to the Kingston House so that they can help a charity.”

The confectionery firm is also running an Easter egg-making class on March 24.
