A GROUP of old schoolfriends have reunited for a poignant tribute in memory of their beloved friend.

Kay Davies, whose maiden name was Gilmour, sadly passed away in April 2016 after a brave battle against lung cancer.

As a special tribute to Kay, who was just 53, her close knit group of school friends - former pupils of Port Glasgow High - have teamed up to take on the 23-mile Kiltwalk on Sunday.

Sandra McPhee says they are keen to raise as much money as they can for the British Association for Lung Research.

She told the Tele: "We're looking forward to it as we're going to make it a celebration.

"One of our friends Carol is coming up from London especially for it.

"I think this has brought us closer together."

The other tartan trekkers who will join Sandra include her school friends Cath O'Hara, Janice McEwan, Elaine Griffin, Carol Russell and Liz Crampsey.

Cath's sister-in-law Maureen O'Hara has also signed up.

Cath, who lives in Gourock's Taymouth Drive, said: "As well as going to school together, we also used to be regulars in the Clune Brae Hotel.

"Our favourite drink there was a Blue Lagoon cocktail, so we have made that our team name for the walk."

Kay, who moved to live in Wales with her husband Mark and daughter Grace, 17, is fondly remembered by her friends.

Sandra said: "We all brought something different to the dynamic.

"Kay was always very organised and would enjoy organising nights out.

"She was also a very loyal friend and she was quite sporty."

To raise as much as they can for the charity, the ladies have set up an online fundraising page.
