A PORT Glasgow High School pupil is staging a huge charity concert tonight in memory of her friend Jayden Orr.

Selfless Sasha Malone is putting on the event in aid of Jayden's Rainbow and the Tele's Show Some Heart campaign.

She is bringing all the talent in the school under one roof for the concert - and will take to the stage herself to join her dance group.

Like so many in her community, she was shocked by the death of the ten-year-old Newark Primary pupil and star skater - who collapsed and died while on the ice.

Jayden's parents Kathleen and John went to parliament this week as they continue their fight to raise awareness of the need for accessible defibrillators in schools and public places.

Kindhearted Sasha, who is only 14, spoke movingly about a cause that has become special to the whole of Inverclyde.

Third year pupil Sasha, from Mid Avenue,. said: "Jayden was such a loving and caring wee boy. We all miss him.

"I spent my 13th birthday with him. His mum came to my party to do my hair and nails and he came along.

"I wanted to do something to help. I think what his mum and dad are doing in his memory is amazing.

"Some people would be sitting in their house feeling sorry for themselves, but they have gone out and set up a charity to save other peoples' lives."

The determined pupil has tapped into the school's rich seam of talented musicians, singers, choir members and dancers to put 13 acts in place.

With help from principal music teacher Julie Ballantyne, they have put together a programme of entertainment and are currently fitting in rehearsals.

She organised donations for a raffle and has also set up a candy stall.

Sasha said: "A year ago I would never even be able to get on a stage and speak in front of people but I'll be performing with a dance group at the concert."

Sasha has also been supported by her mum Diane, dad John and her big sister Chloe, aged 19, who is best friends with Kerri, Jayden's big sister.

Head teacher Stuart Clark said: "I am very proud of Sasha and it is fantastic to see her supporting this cause.

"It is important as a school that we reach out to the local community."

Jayden's Rainbow charity night is on in the school tonight from 7pm. Tickets are priced £3 for adults and £2 for children on the door.

All proceeds will go towards the campaign to put defibrillators into every school in Inverclyde.
