POTHOLE ravaged roads at a Port Glasgow supermarket have finally been repaired.

Work has taken place over the last few days to fix the pockmarked car park of the town's Tesco store.

Shoppers have been growing increasingly annoyed by the state of the roads in and out of the supermarket, the petrol station and the surrounding parking bays, which had been littered with deep cavities for several months.

The Tele highlighted the long-standing pothole problem a fortnight ago and Tesco bosses pledged to repair the surfaces 'in the coming weeks'.

They have kept their word after contractors started resurfacing work on Tuesday.

One delighted shopper said: "This has taken long enough to get fixed but the roads are now night and day from the way they were.

"It's a relief to be able to drive smoothly in and out of the store and the petrol station again instead of it being like the dodgems at the fair, trying to avoid the huge craters in the road and throughout the car park."

Tesco had put down large steel sheets over some of the worst-affected areas as a temporary measure but motorists complained that they were unstable and made a 'racket'.

The road next to the petrol station was particularly bad and drivers complained that the potholes were unavoidable.

The steel sheets are now gone and in their place is a smooth, new surface with fresh line markings.
