PORT girl and broadcaster Jean Johansson says she has all the right ingredients to succeed in BBC's Celebrity MasterChef.

The local lass, who currently reports on the BBC's 'The One Show' and 'Animal Park', will appear on the hit cookery show next month.

Jean, 36, a former Tele columnist, says the show has been the best experience of her career.

Speaking exclusively to the Tele, she said: "It's a dream come true - the best experience of my career.

"When I got the call, it was like an out of body experience as I'm a massive fan of the show and have watched every single series.

"I'm working on a few BBC shows and they were looking for people to appear who are interested in cooking."

Jean, who is mum to seven-year-old Junior and is married to ex-Rangers player Jonatan Johansson, says she is a dab hand at rustling up a Sunday roast for her family and friends.

She said: "I cook at home, although quite basic 'mummy stuff'.

"If I'm being adventurous I'll cook a risotto or moussaka.

"I'm not known for being an amazing cook, so my friends will be having a good laugh at this.

"At times I can whip up an amazing dish - and other times it turn out a disaster."

Jean, who divides her time between her home in Skelmorlie and London, says it was an experience to cook under the watchful eye of judges John Torode and Greg Wallace.

She added: "It was nerve-wracking, especially the first time you meet all the celebrities and step into the kitchen that you've watched on television.

"Greg and John were amazing.

"They love to taste good food, if you're doing something nice they get excited.

"They were really supportive."

Jean is sworn to secrecy about her progress - but says that viewers will be surprised.

She said: "What I can say is that I've made a Scottish dish and Greg really, really liked it.

"So I'm off to a good start.

"It was a really competitive group, but I'm not allowed to say who is in my heat but the standard was really high.

"I've learned so much as I now know how to cook things I would never have bought in the supermarket like quail and seafood."

Jean says she feels proud to represent Inverclyde on the TV.

She said: "I hope everybody enjoys it.

"I cried on the programme, which is something I never do but it's emotional experience. Cooking is personal as you're putting yourself out there to be judged.

"I'm really proud to represent Inverclyde."

The plucky Port star now has her sights set on another hit TV show.

She said: "You never know I might be jumping out of a plane on 'I'm a Celebrity...Get me Out of Here' next.

"I would love to be on that show - watch this space!"
