A 70-YEAR-OLD Kilmacolm man and his teenage grandson are in a serious condition in Inverclyde Royal Hospital after a motorbike crash.

The grandad and the 13-year-old, who was riding pillion, were travelling from Port Glasgow towards the village shortly before 7pm on Tuesday night when the accident happened.

Police say the pensioner swerved to avoid an emergency services vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on the A761 only yards from Kilmacolm.

Both the man and his grandson were taken to hospital by ambulance. The elderly man suffered injuries to his torso and

the teenager, a pupil at Port Glasgow High, has chest and leg injuries.

Inspector Kenny Hodge said: 'The man and his grandson fell into a ditch and hit a low wall.

'They had a lucky escape. It is fortunate they have no head injuries.'

Police are keen to speak to two motorists who were close to the emergency services car.

Witnesses with any information about the accident should contact Greenock police office on 492500, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
